So I guess I’m doing this now.
Hi everyone. I’m Kat, and I am a 26-Year-Old Comic Book Reviewer And TTRPG Journalist for the amazing pop culture site Nerd Initiative. I have been there for almost a year, and it has been the most fun year of my life.
I primarily review Indie Comics, so from publishers like Image Comics, Dark Horse Comics, Mad Cave Studios, IDW Publishing, Titan Comics, and even BOOM! Studios. I also review books from Marvel Comics, but I’m very pick and choose when it comes to those books. So if you do see a Marvel Comics review from me, it’ll most likely be a character I am a fan of or have read past series from.
Alongside doing Comic Book Reviews, I also write news about TTRPGs (or Tabletop Role-Playing Games for the uninitiated). News-wise, I either write about new digital tools for TTRPGs, Kickstarters for upcoming projects, or Critical Role news that gets announced.
Recent Things I Worked On
Now, this last week has been a crazy week of content. I had a big TTRPG Kickstarter article drop, and 4 comic reviews as well. So let’s get into everything.
New Aetherial Expanse Kickstarter From Ghostfire Gaming
Ok, so when I was running my blog, Tabletop Nerds, the original Aetherial Expanse Sourcebook was out on Kickstarter. Now, over a year later, the first expansion book is out on Kickstarter. Dreams Of The Drowned God is a beautiful new book that adds a lot of new content to this setting.
This was such a fun article to write, and it really shows that the Indie TTRPG space is still alive and thriving very well. It also shows that Ghostfire Gaming is making some of the coolest products out there.
So I had 4 reviews as I had mentioned, that dropped this week, and the review for Issue #4 of Lost Fantasy was the first to drop. Curt Pires was a writer whose work I hadn’t read previously, so this comic was a perfect intro for me to his style of work.
Now Issue #5 isn’t dropping until November, but I’m excited to see where the story goes from here.
Dynamite released the first issue of their new Disney Comic Book Series, Stitch. My review of Issue #1 doesn’t do this book enough justice. This issue kicked off the new series in a big way, and I’m so excited to see where we go from here.
Issue #3 of Marvel Comics’ Jeff The Land Shark dropped, and I am loving this series so much. Issues #1 and #2 set up where we pick up in #3. My review highlights Jeff working with Rogue & Co., but it shows that his shadow isn’t quite done with it’s antics just yet.
So Mad Cave Studios released a news series called Red Vector. This is a series I originally didn’t plan on reviewing, but I read Issue #1, and immediately fell in love with both the characters and the story’s world. My review, I feel, only scratches the surface of this amazing space epic series.
Upcoming Content
So I have some amazing Comic Book Reviews that are happening next week that I am excited about. But I also have TTRPG/TTRPG-Related news that will be dropping as well. Alongside all of this, some TV shows that I’ve been watching/waiting for are coming back soon, and that small list includes:
Citytv’s Hit Police Procedure Hudson & Rex For Season 8
Season 19 Of CBC’s Longest Running Mystery Series Murdoch Mysteries
The Stateside Premiere Of Season 1 Of Citytv’s Canadian Screen Award-Winning Series Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent
CBC’s Longest Running Satirical News Comedy Show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, For Season 33
Season 2 Of ABC’s Amazing Police Comedy High Potential
Hudson & Rex Season 8 Hype
The one piece of content that I am most excited about but also interested in seeing is Season 8 of Hudson & Rex. If you are wondering why, this photo explains all:
Ladies and Gents, allow me to introduce our new leading man for the series, British/Canadian Actor Luke Roberts. He has been in so many projects over the years, including:
2003 Series Crossroads
2024’s Silent Hill 2 Remake
Seasons 3 & 4 Of Black Sails From 2016-2017
CBS’s 2017-2019 Series Ransom
I’m so intrigued and interested to see where this season goes. We know that Rex is doing a whole lot of new stunts this season, but I’m interested to see where Luke’s character, Mark, is going to go. I’m also very interested to see how this new team dynamic works. Rogers has yet to release the Citytv schedule for the fall, so it will be interesting to see both when it premieres and what happens during the season as well.
Murdoch’s Back Baby
The CBC Original Mystery Series Murdoch Mysteries is back this fall. I first caught this show when Ovation TV premiered Season 18 here in the States last fall. I have always found that Time Period Mysteries weren’t always my thing. That opinion went out the window immediately when I watched this show.
Now, with the way Season 18 ended, I’m really curious to see just how/where they pick this season. We know that everyone was locked out of the Station House, but we really don’t know much else about what is going to happen.
Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent Is Coming
Ok, so Citytv’s Original Series, Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent, is making it’s Stateside premiere next month on The CW. I have been waiting over a year for this to premiere here, so I cannot wait to check this out.
The other thing I love about this show is that Toronto is it’s own character. It shoots in the city, so every location there ends up becoming a character in itself.
Canadian Comedy Is Alive And Well
I have just gotten into CBC’s Original Satirical Comedy Series, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, over the course of the last month. I now understand why it’s called Canada’s Version Of SNL.
Season 33 should be premiering sometime in the next 3 weeks, but I know the quality of the show is going to be exactly the same as every season.
Morgan And Team Are Back
ABC’s High Potential quickly became a hit series for me last year. I didn’t know Kaitlin Olson, mostly because I don’t watch FX’s It’s Always Sunny. But she killed it as Morgan, and I know season 2 is going to be just as funny, potentially even funnier.
